2h

Pet Swallowed Something — The 2-Hour Window

If your dog or cat has swallowed a toy, bone, sock, medication, rat poison or any other object — contact us within 2 hours of ingestion. Within this window, it is often possible to empty the stomach without surgical intervention. After 2 hours, the object moves further into the digestive tract. At that point, surgery often becomes the only option. Do not give food or water. Do not wait to see if it passes. Call us now.

Why Best Pet Vet for Urgent Care

Senior Vets. Fast Results.
No Waiting Until Tomorrow.

An urgent case at 9pm deserves the same standard of care as one at 9am. At Best Pet Vet, it gets exactly that.

1

In-house lab — results during the appointment

CBC, biochemistry, organ function, cardiac markers — all in-house. In an urgent case, waiting 24 hours for external lab results is not acceptable. Our laboratory delivers results in under 15 minutes, allowing us to begin treatment immediately with full diagnostic information.

2

Senior veterinarians — every urgent case

Urgent cases are not managed by less experienced staff. Senior veterinarians educated at respected European universities, with advanced training and over 25 years of clinical experience, handle every case that comes through our doors — regardless of the time.

3

On-site imaging and cardiology

Abdominal ultrasound, echocardiography and advanced digital radiography — available on-site. When an urgent case requires imaging to understand what is happening inside, we do not refer out. We assess, image and treat in the same visit.

4

Exotic animals treated as urgent

GI stasis in a rabbit and egg binding in a bird are life-threatening conditions. Best Pet Vet treats exotic animal urgent cases with the same seriousness as dogs and cats. Please call ahead so the right specialist is ready.

5

Clear communication throughout

Maja describes this directly in her own words: what matters to owners is feeling safe, informed and not left in the dark. In an urgent situation, we explain every step — what we are doing, why, and what to expect next. You are never left wondering.

FAQ

Common Questions About Urgent Care

Are you open for emergencies at night?
Best Pet Vet is open until midnight — Monday and Wednesday through Sunday. For urgent situations that occur before midnight, call or WhatsApp +971 58 511 7557 immediately. For situations after midnight, please go to the nearest 24-hour veterinary facility. We do not operate after midnight.
My pet swallowed something — what should I do?
Call us immediately on +971 58 511 7557. Do not give food, water or medication before speaking to us. If the ingestion happened within the last 2 hours, it may be possible to empty the stomach without surgery. After 2 hours, surgical intervention often becomes necessary. Time is the critical variable — do not wait.
Do I need to call ahead for an urgent case?
Yes — please call or WhatsApp before arriving. A brief description of what happened and your pet's current condition allows us to prepare for your arrival and advise on what to do during transport. In some urgent situations, the guidance we give over the phone can be critical.
How quickly will my pet be seen?
Urgent cases are triaged by clinical priority on arrival. If you have called ahead and described the situation, our team will be prepared. In-house lab results are available in under 15 minutes — we do not delay assessment waiting for external diagnostics. Treatment begins as soon as the clinical picture is clear.
Do you treat urgent cases in exotic animals?
Yes. GI stasis in rabbits, egg binding in birds and respiratory distress in reptiles are all treated as urgent cases at Best Pet Vet. Please call ahead when bringing an exotic animal so the right specialist is ready and prepared for your species.
What if my pet needs urgent care after midnight?
Best Pet Vet does not operate after midnight. If your pet requires urgent care after midnight, please go directly to the nearest veterinary facility that operates 24 hours. Do not delay seeking care while attempting to reach us outside our operating hours.
